I have at least three couples who are relatives and/or friends who are there now. I ask them upon their return "so how was it?" Last year, it was - we can't talk about politics, it gets too crazy. It will be interesting this spring. What a sad state of affairs when people don't vote and then when they do, they find some arcane system from eons ago make their slight majority not count. Ah well, we could go on and on but we won't today.Anne (Tripe) Crossmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05367940728289321240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472854955122235240.post-2470709215250297132014-02-05T04:11:30.607-05:002014-02-05T04:11:30.607-05:00One of the best Telecommunication company based on...One of the best Telecommunication company based on Canada. They are much more savy than what we have been and they realize that until the whole foundation is changed, nothing will change. Layton's other campaigh promisses don't matter and most thinking people realize that until the system changes nothing else will change - so they are taking the chance that their protest vote (and that's what it is), will send a strong message and may help bring in drastic changes. Quebec has tried the Bloq for those exact reasons but have come to realize that this has to happen nationally so they are hoping to participate in starting a new trend which the youg people enthusisticly endorse.GILL PICARDhttp://www.gillpicard.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472854955122235240.post-78241479423314415002011-04-17T13:05:46.641-04:002011-04-17T13:05:46.641-04:001972????? Rahe is a professor of history at Hillsdale College and the author, most recently, of Montesquieu and the Logic of Liberty and Soft Despotism, Democracy’s Drift.

How to Think About the Tea Party (and the Canadian Reform Party)

In point of fact, however, this sort of upheaval is nothing new. Such forces have risen periodically throughout the history of the United States and have their antecedents in 17th- and 18th-century England.
In his 1748 Spirit of Laws, the great political philosopher Montesquieu attributed the recurring turmoil that had long beset England to the separation of powers between the executive and the legislature.
To their dismay and that of their ministers, what soon came to be called “the Country” rose up in high dudgeon time and time again to denounce on the floor of the House of Commons what was perceived as favouritism, corruption, arbitrary rule, conspiracy, and papist predilections on the part of a Court thought to be intent on encroaching on the rights of ordinary Englishmen and the prerogatives possessed by Parliament. These tensions produced the English civil war of the 1640s, the execution of Charles I in 1648, the rule of the Rump Parliament and the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell in the 1640s and 1650s, followed by the Restoration of the monarchy in 1658, which was in turn followed 30 years later by the Glorious Revolution.

In 1776, when George Mason drafted the Virginia Declaration of Rights, he included a provision reflecting what the revolutionaries had learned from the long period of struggle between Court and Country in England and in America: “that no free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue and by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.”
In Europe, Jefferson explained, “under the pretence of government, they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”
”From the outset, Jefferson feared that in this country the government would eventually find its way to what his friend James Madison would later call a “self directed course.” It was with this unwelcome prospect in mind that he asked, “What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve their spirit of resistance?”GILL PICARDhttp://www.gillpicard.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472854955122235240.post-37992133227858636682011-02-03T22:28:12.140-05:002011-02-03T22:28:12.140-05:00If we divert Canadian oil from America to China, m...If we divert Canadian oil from America to China, maybe we may finally get the Yanks to wake up and start taken Canadian sovereignty seriously!Ken S from Ramarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16983894655094943569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472854955122235240.post-29627727133933638162011-02-01T22:52:24.841-05:002011-02-01T22:52:24.841-05:00I'd worry more about reviving USPS, ink and pa...I'd worry more about reviving USPS, ink and paper since 2012 is supposed to reverse the magnetic poles and that will likely be the end of electronic anything including commuications and transportation. ....but if we end up with 2 suns,we might not have to worry about getting to Maui...gillhttp://www.gillpicard.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472854955122235240.post-51371244836518162012010-10-05T09:43:28.212-04:002010-10-05T09:43:28.212-04:00Alas, though the comments relate to my North Ameri...Alas, though the comments relate to my North American experience; I note with sadness from your observations that the problem is indeed universal.Bill Akerleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15050332686123633839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5472854955122235240.post-37302300784162258312010-10-04T22:26:55.819-04:002010-10-04T22:26:55.819-04:00Working at a University in Australia, I can tell y...Working at a University in Australia, I can tell you how true your insights are.
